What is CNC turning?

CNC turning produces parts by mounting a blank on a rotating chuck and removing material using stationary cutting tools. This technology is ideal for manufacturing parts with symmetry along their center axis. Turned parts are typically produced faster (and at a lower cost) than milled parts.

Machine tool description

  • Turning and milling compound machining center

Turning and milling compound machining center

A turning and milling compound machining center refers to a place where both lathes and milling machines are used for processing

  • Automated CNC lathe

    Automated CNC lathe

The CNC lathe is one of the most widely used CNC machine tools. It is mainly used for cutting processing of inner and outer cylindrical surfaces, inner and outer conical surfaces with any cone Angle, complex rotary inner and outer curved surfaces, and cylindrical and conical threads of shaft parts or disc parts, and can also perform slotting, drilling, reaming, boring and tapping, etc

Learn more about how CNC turning works and how to design better parts for this machining process.

CNC turning machining is a machining process that uses computer control to rotate the workpiece while cutting tools remove material to obtain the desired shape. It is a highly accurate and efficient way to make parts with complex geometric shapes such as cylinders, cones and threads.

The biggest difference between CNC milling and turning is the movement of the cutting tool and the workpiece. In CNC turning, the workpiece rotates at a set speed while the cutting tool remains relatively stationary; CNC milling is to fix the workpiece in one position, while the cutting tool rotates around the workpiece to subtract excess material. CNC milling and CNC turning are still widely used CNC machining operations. Although these two machinings have similarities in CNC, their operating processes and machining purposes are very different; therefore, choosing the right processing technology is the key to the success of the project.

After the CNC is processed, it generally needs to be surface-treated to enhance certain features of the parts, such as functionality, corrosion resistance, or brightly colored appearance;

Common surface treatment processes for CNC machining parts:

Anodizing

Electroplating Normal plating Galvanized Tin plating Copper plating Nickel plating Chrome blue/black Phosphate Passivation

Sandblasting

Powder spraying

polishing

Silk printing

Laser marking

Brushed

Paint, etc.

We usually define surface treatment requirements based on different material properties.
